Infrastructure cess waiver notified

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: The government of Sindh has notified the waiver of infrastructure cess levied on goods imported under the Afghan Transit Trade (ATT).

The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Ghulam Arbab Rahim, according to an official announcement issued by the commerce ministry here on Saturday.

The meeting decided that the trans-shipment of goods imported by various missions, embassies, consulates, recognized and renowned non-governmental organization (NGOs) under the Afghan Transit Trade Agreement should be allowed waiver provisionally for a period of three months (up to December 31, 2004) without recovery of the infrastructure cess.

"The federal government should be approached to replenish the government of Sindh the amount involved as infrastructure cess in above cases. Those private commercial concerns who were already paying infrastructure cess should continue to pay the same," it added.
