KARACHI: School holiday today

KARACHI, Sept 30: All government and private schools in the city would remain closed on Friday on account of Shab-i-Bara'at, it was learnt officially. However, public universities, including the University of Karachi, the Dow University of Health Sciences, and their affiliated units, would remain open.

When contacted, Adviser to the City Nazim on Education Nasim Siddiqui said that the Sha'aban 15 holiday was already a closed holiday for the schools approved by the Sindh education department.

The DHUS has issued notice to the students and faculty members that the university and its affiliated units would remain open on Friday. A senior KU official said that university and its affiliated colleges would remain open on Friday as usual.

The EDO of higher education was not available for comments, but a senior teacher said that "the colleges where only intermediate classes are held are closed on Friday." The NED University and Urdu University have also announced holiday on account of Shab-i-Bara'at on Friday, said administrative officials.
