SAHIWAL, Sept 15: Lawyers observed a strike here on Wednesday against the incident of alleged police violence in the court of local civil judge on Tuesday. They demanded dismissal of the accused police officials.

Reports said civil judge Munir Hussain Gill ordered arrest of SI Muhammad Zubair for illegally detaining some accused and not producing them to the court. Meanwhile, court bailiff Akram Zahid was taking the accused SI to central jail when ASI Akram, constables Ashraf, Zahoor Ahmed, Sardar Muhammad, Saif Ali and three unidentified men got Zubair released from the court bailiff. The policemen arrested court employee Kashif and took him away.

The district and sessions judge ordered registration of a case against the accused staffers. The district police officer instead ordered suspension of SI Zubair, ASI Akram, constables Ashraf, Zahoor Ahmed, Sardar Muhammad and Saif Ali. Police had not registered the case till the filing of the report.

BOOKED: Chichawatni police on Wednesday registered a case against 10 transporters of two rival groups for exchange of fire in a bid to take possession of the wagon stand.

Reports said two groups led by Sheikh Hanif and Azhar wanted to take possession of the flying coach stand and resorted to firing which continued for two hours on Tuesday night.

Police have arrested transporters Saifur Rehman, Bahawar Ali, Iqbal and Siddique under 16-MPO and 324, 353, 186, 337/H, 148 and 149 of the PPC and recovered four pump actions.
