KARACHI, Sept 12: The president of the Pakistan People's Party, Sindh chapter, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has said that the PPP would once again compete with the official candidate in the by election on National Assembly Seat NA-229 in Thar and expose the oppressive policies of government.

Qaim Ali Shah, a former chief minister, was speaking at a joint meeting of the PPP Karachi coordination committee and PPP Sindh executive committee at the Bilawal House. Besides, organizational matters of the party, the meeting discussed by election of Thar scheduled for Oct 7 and formulated its strategy.

He said that the PPP had contested the election against Shaukat Aziz in the Thar constituency by fielding Mahesh Malani, who would again meet the challenge of the official candidate.

Referring to the prevailing circumstances in the country, he said that there was no provision in the Constitution for a president in uniform. He alleged that the newly installed Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was more worried about the uniform of president rather than poverty of 14 million people, increasing unemployment and suicide incidents.

The meeting also adopted resolution welcoming the acquittal of Asif Zardari from the Steel Mills case which had proved that all cases were framed up due to political enmity.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Nawab Yusuf Talpur, Taj Haider, Aftab Shaban Mirani, Prof N.D. Khan, Rashid Rabbani, Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, Manzoor Wasan, Abdul Sattar Bachani, Maula Bukhsh Chandio, Lal Bukhsh Bhutto, Abdul Salam Thaiem and Dr Mahesh Malani.
