CPNE to set up complaints commission

KARACHI, Sept 12: The Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) at its annual general meeting (AGM) held recently in Islamabad decided to set up a "Media complaints commission" to deal with complaints against newspapers and relating to press freedom.

The commission, the CPNE secretariat said in a release, would serve as 'ombudsman' on public and government complaints against the press and complaints of the press against government and other pressure groups.

The meeting also decided to set up a "press freedom monitoring desk" at the secretariat to violations of freedom of the press from grassroots to the federal level. The meting also decided to publish a fortnightly general to cover national and international opinions on editorial issues and problems.
