KARACHI: Completion of work on Scheme-33 stressed

KARACHI, Sept 12: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that the city government is keenly waiting for early completion of the Scheme-33 and taking measures for speedy execution of development works there.

Speaking as chief guest at the annual function of a cooperative society on Sunday, the nazim said that the scheme-33 should have been executed under the city government.

He said that the EDO, Revenue, had been appointed as project director for the scheme. Mr Khan said the scheme, which was launched 30 years back, should have been completed with in a period of five years, but because of the negligence and lack of interest shown on part of the housing societies involved, the scheme was still lying in abeyance.

He pointed out that the government had already spent millions of rupees on the provision of basic facilities of water, sewerage and roads for the scheme. He informed the gathering that internal development in the scheme was the responsibility of the societies.

Emphasising early completion of the scheme, the nazim said it was only possible if the societies as well as the city government executed the development works speedily and simultaneously.

He said the ongoing development under the city government was a result of honesty and transparency with which the affairs of the city were being run. The nazim said that the people who had been given mandate by the city should contribute towards its development. On the occasion, the president of the Maulana Ehteramul Huq Thanvi Society, besides others, also spoke. -APP
