NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Sept 12: Activists of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Hari Sangat and farmers took out a procession in Moro on Sunday to protest against sale of substandard pesticides.

Led by STP Hari Sangat leaders Abdul Latif Ansari and Ghulam Abbas Khokhar, the protesters gathered outside the Moro press club and observed a token hunger strike. They complained that substandard pesticides being sold to farmers were harming crops. Officials of the agriculture department were not taking effective measures to curb the menace, they added.

PROTEST: Some 100 villagers took out a procession near Sadhoja on Sunday to protest against the Moro police for raiding the Peroze Khan Khoso village and arresting a marriage party guests.

A singer, Mazan Khoso, was returning from a marriage party in the village when five armed men looted him. He informed village notables and the police of the incident. However, instead of the bandits, the police arrested some guests.

The hosts resisted and, following an exchange of fire, the police allegedly set their house on fire. Later, villagers staged a sit-in on the Sadhoja road, blocking it for an hour. Former MNA Haji Rehmatullah Behan and TPO Ghulam Rabbani reached the spot and assured them that the looters would be arrested. On this, the protest was called off.
