KARACHI: Govt institution in a shambles

KARACHI, Sept 12: The residents of Korangi area have called for the safety and survival of Sindh government's skill development centre in the area.

The Apprenticeship Training Centre, which housed official machinery, equipment and other infrastructure worth millions of rupees, was under various threats and fast moving towards destruction.

The centre was a source of economic empowerment for people, where they were imparted with inexpensive and quality training in various trades, said a group of residents to the APP on Sunday, adding that the centre also found jobs for them in the private sector.

The facility, they said, remained flooded with sewage water, coming from broken sewerage lines. These sewerage system had been shattered due to heavy traffic of trucks transporting sand and gravel for sale.

These heavily loaded trucks not only damaged the sewerage system but choked it as well, filling it with leftover sand and gravel, they said. They also pointed out that trucks had encroached upon surroundings of the government facility, while frequent complaints of harassment of students by anti-social elements active there were received.
