KARACHI, Sept 10: The Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Dr Hamida Khuhro, has said the government is making all-out efforts to ensure quality education with a vision to promote the policy of public-private partnership.

Dr Khuhro announced that private educational institutes fulfilling the criteria would be given charter/degree awarding status. Furthermore, all private schools would be brought under legislation to provide full scholarships to 10 per cent of its needy but intelligent students.

She said this on her visit to the Pakistan Institute of Management (PIM) at Clifton. Dr Khuhro announced that legislation was under way to control the undue raise in fees by private educational institutes, making it clear that no one would be allowed to extort money unfairly.

She urged a holistic approach and collective efforts at all levels for the promotion of quality education, adding that the government was taking various steps to improve the standard of public sector/government run schools to ensure standard and free-of-cost education.

Earlier, the Director PIM, Zarrar A Zubair, briefed the minister about the institute, saying the institute had facilitated around 127,000 individuals through training.

He further said that it also awarded MBA degree with the affiliation of the IBA. Dr Khuhro also expressed the need for English and Mathematics subject short courses. She also exchanged views with participants of the online training held at Lahore campus of PIM.

He further said that PIM could give a healthier competition to other private sector and highly reputed educational institutions on cost-effective basis, if they were awarded charter of degree awarding status.
