FAISALABAD, Sept 7: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has demanded that the government forms a high-powered judicial commission to probe the death of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam city president Qari Noor Muhammad in custody of police.

Talking to newsmen at the Jamia Masjid Mubarik on Tuesday, MMA senior vice-president Senator Maulana Samiul Haq said every thing was clear in the case of Qari Noor, but the law-enforcement agencies were trying to put the issue in cold storage to save the culprits.

He said the Qari's death was a clear proof that anti-Islam forces had started war against Muslims in Pakistan after Afghanistan and Iraq. The Maulana, who is also the JUI chief of his own faction, said the rulers were playing in the hands of the US forces just to prolong their rule in the country at the cost of lives of people and prestige of the nation.

"The anti-Islam forces are allergic to religious seminaries and now a vilification campaign has been launched against religious leaders and madressahs to please the foreign powers," he added.

He warned that activists of religious outfits and students of seminaries would launch a protest drive if the government failed to stop raids on madressahs."

Local MMA leaders - Muhammad Yousaf Anwar and Sheikh Abdul Islam - were prominent among other speakers. Meanwhile, JUI chief met the heirs of Qari Noor and offered fateha. He assured the family that all-out efforts would be made to bring the culprits to book.
