KARACHI: 'Robber' killed in encounter

KARACHI, Sept 7: An alleged bandit was shot dead and his associate injured by police in an encounter in the Gulberg area on Tuesday. Police said the two suspects were trying to snatch a car near Tahir Villa Chowrangi when two policemen on a motorcycle and a mobile van reached the spot.

The suspects, who were on a motorcycle (KAX-8657), fled. After reaching Block-17, they dumped the motorcycle and opened fire at the police party which was in their pursuit. Police opened fire, killing one of the suspects and injuring the other, who fled.

HEROIN SEIZED: The customs drugs cell at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport arrested a Dutch model after seizing 1kg of heroin from her possession.

A customs official said Helen Bishesar, a model from the Netherlands, had come to Pakistan a week back. During search at the airport, 1kg of heroin was found in secret chambers of her vanity box, the official said. She was on her way to Amsterdam via Dubai and Paris.
