FAISALABAD: Canal breach affects hundreds of acres

FAISALABAD, Sept 5: The standing crop was destroyed over hundreds of acres as Gogera Branch Canal developed a 20-foot breach near Maduana in Jaranwala tehsil on Saturday night.

The area administrators and officials of the irrigation department plugged the breach after hectic efforts.

ZAKAT OFFICIAL BOOKED: Samundri police have registered a fraud case against the chairman of Samundri Zakat committee. The chairman of district Zakat committee accused Rana Amir Ali of misappropriating Rs107,000.

The accused, who has not been arrested so far, claimed that he was implicated in a false case because he refused to distribute Zakat funds among favourites of the complainant.
