KARACHI, Sept 5: The city government has handed over 17 kms of right of way to the National Highway Authority (NHA) for the construction of Lyari Expressway , while 9,000 families have so far been shifted to Hawkesbay and Taisar Towns under the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Scheme, it was said at a meeting.

The high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Communication, K.B. Rind, to review the progress achieved in respect of the Lyari Expressway (LEW), the attainment of right of way and resettlement of those shifted.

The meeting was attended, among others, by DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali, Project Director, LERP, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, Project Director, LEW and Northern Bypass Mohammed Yusuf Barakzai and others.

The meeting discussed problems in the way of speedy construction of the LEW while the commander engineer, FWO briefed the meeting about bottlenecks in the way of the right of way, sand and gravel.

The Project Director, LEW, Yousuf Barakzai, informed that the city government had so far handed over 17 kms of right of way to the NHA. Mr Rind directed the project director and the city government to expeditiously complete development works in connection with the resettlement project.

It was informed that resettlement of those shifted to Hawkesbay and Taisar Town was progressing and so far over 9,000 families had been resettled while the resettlement process at the third site of Baldia Town would start in the next four weeks. -APP
