KASUR, Aug 31: A 50-member delegation of Indian scholars and literati reached Kasur on Tuesday evening to participate in the Punjabi Mehfil-i-Mushaira at the shrine of Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah.
The delegation was to visit the district to pay homage to the revered sufi poet on his Urs, but it could not cross border for delay in issuance of visas. Earlier, a 22-member delegation, led by Dr Nirmala Desh Pande, had come to the district to attend the Urs and Bulleh Shah International Seminar on Aug 27.
The new delegation was warmly received by the PPP activists and other known personalities. Headed by S Kamarjeet Singh, the visitors attended a tea reception by union council Nazim Muhammad Hanif Shazim and banquet by union council Nazim Haji Ayaz Ahmad Khan.
Later, it laid chaddar at the shrine of the saint. It was scheduled to participate in the Mehfil-i-Mushaira at the shrine late at night. PPP MNA Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad and PPP MPA Syed Muzaffar Hassan Kazmi were the organizers of the event to be held under the auspices of the Bulleh Shah international Forum.
STRIKE: The Anjuman-i-Tajran of Kot Radha Kishan continued strike for the second consecutive day on Tuesday to protest the killing of a salesman. Anjuman chairman Shaukat Ali announced that the shopkeepers would continue strike till the arrest of the killers of Ehsan Elahi.
