KARACHI, Aug 31: A man was shot dead in the jurisdiction of Mauripur police station on Tuesday. Police said Ali Mohammad, 50, was heading to Qasim Shah Mazar when some armed men shot at him near Edhi graveyard and fled. The victim died on way to a private hospital.

Later, the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. The police said that the victim's son had lodged an FIR against unknown persons.

In Saeedabad, a man was stabbed to death inside his house. Police said that Zavir Khan, 50, was asleep in his courtyard when armed men barged into his house and stabbed him to death. His body was shifted to hospital for autopsy. According to the police, the victim was a watchman in a private bank. Police suspected some personal enmity as a possible motive behind the killing.

BODY FOUND: A housewife was found dead in mysterious circumstances in North Karachi on Tuesday. Police said that the body of Shabana, 25, was found from the bedroom of her house.

They said that Shabana's husband Rizwan Ali had got a portion of the house on rent on Aug 8. On Tuesday morning, as usual Rizwan went to work. In the afternoon, a mayhem from the rented portion prompted the landlady to see the tenants. The landlady found Shabana's body lying on the bed.

She informed the area police about the incident. Subsequently, the police reached the spot and shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination. There was no injury marks on the body, police said. According to the police and the landlady, the victim's three- year-old daughter, Muneeza, was at home when the incident had occurred.

ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist died in a road accident on University Road on Tuesday. Police said that Zahoor Husain, 35, was knocked down to death by a speeding water tanker near Old Sabzi Mandi. His body was sent to the JPMC for postmortem examination.

ARRESTED: Police arrested four students of the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology when two student groups clashed on the campus on Tuesday. Police said that when they entered the college premises the two groups - Punjabi Students Association and Islami Jamiat Talaba - were fighting. They arrested Tariq Mustafa of the IJT and three members of the PSA.

Two counter FIRs were lodged by the groups against each other, police said adding that the college administration has also lodged an FIR against the students for causing damage to the college property. According to police, the injured activists of IJT were taken to the Civil Hospital whereas PSA activists were taken to the JPMC.

INJURED: Some activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Sunni Tehreek were injured when the two groups clashed over party flag hoisting. Police said that late Monday night activists of Sunni Tehreek came in Azeempura near the Islam Plaza to hoist a party flag.

On seeing them, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists rushed to the spot and stopped them. A brawl resulted in the firing between the two groups. Four activists of the Muttahida - Feroz Fauji, Sharif, Amjad and Hanif - and two activists of the Sunni Tehreek - Jamil and Tabish - were wounded. Besides, a pedestrian also suffered a bullet wound. Police arrested around 10 activists from both the sides.
