KARACHI: Mubarak Dam completed

Published August 31, 2004

KARACHI, Aug 30: The construction work on much delayed Mubarak Dam project has been completed by city government. City Nazim Naimatullah Khan is expected to inaugurate the dam very soon.

It has been learnt that the project has the capacity to reserve water for two years for water needs of this remote and far flung area of the city.

The project's initial cost was estimated at Rs2.7 million but due to delay in work and increase in rate of steel and cement, the total cost increased to four million rupees.

It is pertinent to note here that the Mubarak Dam project, funded by the World Bank, faced many hurdles since its launch due to non-release of funds. Delay in completion of work played havoc with the residents of Mubarak Village, Keamari Town last year in rainy season, when heavy rains washed away several houses.

Realizing the gravity of situation, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan visited the village and assured the people that construction work would resume shortly. -PPI
