KARACHI, Aug 27: A group of physical education school teachers criticized a decision of the Sindh education department, according to which only the masters degree holders in the subject will be considered for promotion to the post of director.

Referring to the letter issued to executive district officers (education), demanding submission of names of senior physical education teachers with masters degrees, representatives of the group said that the teachers were shocked at the latest promotion criteria set by the education department.

They alleged that the department's latest move was meant to accommodate some junior teachers possessing masters degrees in the subject. The group claimed that the Sindh Public Service Commission demanded the graduates to have the bachelors degree in the subject for the DPE posts, while on the other hand, the DPEs in the educational boards were also serving with the BPEd degree.

Promotion to the post of high school teachers from junior school level also required a BPEd qualification, the group added. They further said no university in Sindh was offering masters degree in physical education.

They appealed to the chief minister and governor of Sindh to look into the issue, as they felt that the latest policy of the department would deprive the bachelor degree holders of their 'due right'.
