FAISALABAD, Aug 27: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the husband of a stage actress on the charge of human smuggling here on Thursday night.

An FIA team intercepted the vehicle of actress Saba Chaudhry when she along with her husband was on her way home after performing in a local theatre on Samundri Road.

The FIA officials picked up her husband and stage drama producer Rana Abdul Raoof and shifted him to some unknown place. The FIA authorities claimed that Rana Raoof had received hundreds of thousands of rupees from the people to send them abroad.

CASE: Sadar police registered a case against an under-trial prisoner for making an attempt to kill himself here on Friday. Mukhtar Malangi, involved in a number of dacoity cases in Mianwali district, had been detained in the central jail for the last few years.

On Friday, the inmate hit his head with the wall and iron door and then injured himself with some sharp weapon. The jail staff immediately overpowered the accused and shifted him to hospital.

THRASHED: A villager severely beat up a sub-engineer of the Irrigation department on Friday in Satiana. Irfan Ahmed exchanged hot words with sub-engineer Sheikh Younas when the latter reprimanded Irfan for taking water from watercourse illegally. Later, he attacked the official and injured him seriously.
