KARACHI: 16 community boards registered


KARACHI, Aug 27: The City Government has registered 16 Citizens Community Boards and has decided to take effective steps for solving various civic problems through these boards.

A meeting was held in this regard with DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali in the chair. The meeting was told that 71 Citizen Community Boards had applied for registration and of them 16 were registered.

The boards have showed interest in carrying out works concerning sewerage, street-lights and other civic amenities. EDO Community Development, said in a briefing that at least 25 residents of a community can set up a board as being its basic members and can engage in activities concerning community development, IT, health, education, agriculture and development.

They can also work on plans for welfare of special people and improvement of civic facilities. In the meeting, a committee, headed by EDO Finance, Shakil Naqvi was set up. It will comprise EDOs Works, Community Development and representatives of Nazim Karachi. It will guide and assist the citizen community boards. -APP
