ISLAMABAD, Aug 26: The last date for the Electoral Rolls prepared for the Local Government Elections in 2000-2001 have been extended up to Sept 30.
These rolls will remain displayed till Sept 30 to facilitate the eligible voters to get themselves enrolled and get the entries deleted, which ought to be deleted under the law.
The existing electoral rolls prepared in the year 2000-2001 for the conduct of elections to Local Government institutions have been displayed as draft electoral rolls on August 9 in the offices of the Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers.
It was also displayed at conspicuous places in each electoral area for public inspection for inviting claims, for inclusion of names, objections for deletion of entries and filing of applications for corrections in the electoral rolls.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Chief Justice (retd) Irshad Hasan Khan said that the purpose is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and that names of voters who have died migrated to some other electoral areas or otherwise have become ineligible, are deleted from the electoral rolls during the update process.
He said that electoral process is the soul of democracy and fairness of electoral process largely depends upon authentic and error free electoral rolls. The persons who have attained the age of 18 years or above on Jan 1, 2004 and are otherwise eligible to be registered as voters are requested to approach the concerned Registration Officer or the Assistant Registration Officers.
They can submit their applications on the prescribed forms to get their names enrolled as voter in the electoral rolls, if not already done. The Local Government Elections are held on separate electoral basis.
Separate electoral rolls had been prepared for Muslim and non-Muslim voters. Claims for inclusion of names shall be in Form Alif for Muslims, and Form Alif-A for non-Muslims.
Objections shall be made on Form (Bay) while the applications for correction of any entry shall be made on Form (Jeem), which are available free of cost with the Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers in each district. -APP
