LAHORE: Rs61.6m allowance for judges

LAHORE, Aug 26: The Punjab government will provide an annual Rs61.6 million special judicial allowance to the judges and judicial magistrates of subordinate courts so that they can plead their cases with peace of mind.

This was stated by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi while presiding over a meeting on dispensation of justice to people and strengthening of the judicial system, here on Thursday.

He said it had been decided that a Rs5,000 judicial allowance a month would be paid to all district and sessions judges, additional sessions judges and senior civil judges, and Rs4,000 to judicial magistrates.

He said the government was giving importance to the legal sector and all institutions relating to dispensation of justice. He said a comprehensive programme was being implemented to fulfil the requirements of the judiciary and provide it with all necessary facilities. Huge funds were also being provided for the construction of courtrooms.

MONITORING OFFICERS: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Thursday that district monitoring officers were being posted to fully implement the health and education reforms. Presiding over a meeting on the education reform programme and training of teachers here, he said a comprehensive programme had been made to provide professional training to teachers.

He said education department's directorate of staff development had been reorganized which would be responsible for implementing strategy regarding the training of teachers. He said the government would acquire the services of local and foreign experts for teachers' training.
