PESHAWAR: Town-II in need of water

Published August 23, 2004

PESHAWAR, Aug 22: Inhabitants of Town-II, Peshawar district, are facing an acute shortage of drinking water and are compelled to dig wells in their houses as the town administration has done nothing to provide water to people in the area.

Criticizing the town administration, they said its workers were more active to send bills and receive taxes but turned a deaf year to their grievances. They claimed that though they had the pipe connections in their houses yet there was not a single drop of water in these connections for the pipe.

The people of the whole town, particularly those of Bashirabad, Madina colony, Rasheedabad, Kachkolabad, Ibrahim town and Charsadda Road, are badly affected by the lack of water in the pipes and are not ready to pay the bills.

Why shall they pay the bills when they were not receiving any water, they said. When the Nazim of Town-II, Mumtaz Khan, was asked about the shortage of water in the pipes, he said that he was aware of the problem but it could not be solved in a single day. Steps, however, were being taken to solve the problem soon, he added. -PPI
