PESHAWAR: Governor inaugurates work on two small dams

PESHAWAR, Aug 22: Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah has inaugurated the construction work on two small dams in the North Waziristan Agency. The dams would cost Rs138.119 million and would be completed in 20 months.
The governor who on Saturday visited the Mersikhel dam site and was informed that the dam would cost Rs78.500 million and would have 75ft height with 1050 AF reservoir capacity and 13.6 square mile catchment area and 350 acres of command area.
Its spillway discharge capacity is estimated to be 13600 cfs and discharge of canal 2 cusecs. Consultancy of the project has been performed by the NESPAK. Later, the governor visited the Sheratala area of the agency where he laid the foundation stone of the Mir Kalam small dam, situated 17 kilometres east of Miramshah, the agency headquarters.
During the briefing, he was told that the dam would be 52ft high with 1,550 AF reservoir capacity, 22.7 square mile catchment area and 375 acres command area. Its spillway discharge will be 1,4370 cfs and discharge of canal 2 cusecs. The governor was accompanied by Secretary Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad and North Waziristan Agency Political Agent Dr Fakhr Alam.
