USAID to provide $14 million to improve legislative governance

ISLAMABAD, Aug 18: The Pakistan Legislative Strengthening Consortium (PLSC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Senate Secretariat to implement a project titled "Strengthening national, provincial legislative governance in Pakistan".

According to a press release, the MoU was signed by Senate secretary Shahiq Ahmad Khan and Sigurd Hanson, country director World Vision, on behalf of the PLSC. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide $14 million to the PLSC for the project.

The three-year project focuses on empowering civil society organizations and the public to engage, lobby and sensitise legislators in the decision-making process. A legislative development steering committee comprising secretary and the members of the senate will guide the implementation of all the activities related to the project.

Chairman Senate Mohammed-mian Soomro, Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain and US Ambassador Nancy Powell were present at the signing ceremony.
