KARACHI: National park planned for Clifton


KARACHI, Aug 18: The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, in a meeting on Wednesday decided that Bin Qasim Bagh in Clifton will be developed into a National Park provided with modern facilities.

The meeting also reviewed the pace of development work in progress on model parks being developed in various towns. The nazim directed that work on the parks be expedited.

It was decided that inauguration of a model park constructed in Block-14, Federal B Area would be held on August 20. The city nazim said that planning be done for construction of parks at Paradise Point and Hawkesbay. The meeting also examined the construction of a food street for people.

Naimat said that all steps be taken to make Karachi green. The meeting was attended by EDOs Raisuddin Paracha, Muhammad Waseem, DO Parks and others. Meanwhile, a meeting chaired by the city nazim on Wednesday decided the removal of three nurseries, set up on plot Nos 161, 162 and 165 at Darakhshan Society, Malir in the next three days.

This meeting was attended by Town Nazim, Malir Naveed Islam, EDO Revenue Muhammad Wasim, DO Parks Liaquat Ali Khan, Councillor Javed Iqbal and members of the Darakhshan Welfare Society. It was decided that a green belt would be developed in the said area with the co-operation of the society.

AMERICANO ISSUE: The Provincial Local Government Commissionhas decided to provide another opportunity to City Nazim Naimatullah Khan to appear before it and clarify his position viz-a-viz the matter of auctioning a nullah, known as 'Americano'.

According to a PLGC press release, the nazim had been asked to appear before the commission on Aug 12 but he had sought extension in time. He had sent a letter stating: "I was abroad for a visit to Japan and later went to Islamabad for two days to attend an official business. Therefore, extension in time for a fortnight be given."

The nazim's request for the required extension in time was accepted and Aug 27 has been fixed as the new date. The PLGC, in its 21st meeting on July 31, had asked the city nazim to appear personally before the commission. - APP/PPI
