Japanese FM leaves for Delhi

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12: Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi left for New Delhi on Thursday after completing a two-day visit to Pakistan. "The visit of the Japanese foreign minister was important and successful in many aspects," foreign office spokesman Masood Khan said.

He said President Pervez Musharraf and Japanese Prime Minister Kazumi had taken important decisions in 2002 following which Pakistan and Japan held high-level security and economic dialogues.

Ms Kawaguchi's visit takes the relationship to a higher plane of engagement and cooperation, the spokesman added. During her first official visit to Pakistan, the Japanese foreign minister held detailed deliberations on important regional and international issues with Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri.

Mr Khan said the visit would help resume the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Pakistan.
