FAISALABAD, Aug 11: Taking a serious notice of the death of a British national due to inhuman treatment and harassment of police, the British High Commission asked the DPO to look into the matter and complete the investigation in a short span of time.

Shamim Akhtar, daughter of British national Ghulam Rasool, claimed in her complaint that a Samundri police team headed by SHO Muhammad Younas had raided her house at Chak 482-GB to please opponents on Feb 17 this year.

She alleged the police had arrested her relatives, looted cash and valuables, took away a tractor and motorcycle with them and publicly disgraced her entire family at the behest of opponents.

The police, she further claimed, also thrashed her father Ghulam Rasool due to which he fell unconscious. He was shifted to a nearby hospital where he died after three days.

A formal complaint had been lodged with the local police for the registration of a criminal case against the SHO and other policemen, but no action has so far been taken. She alleged that the accused policemen had started harassing and threatening her family members with dire consequences.

In response to her complaint with the Punjab chief minister, the CM secretariat's Additional Secretary (Monitoring) had asked the Faisalabad range DIG to complete the investigation and submit report to him within a fortnight. But despite the passage of over five months, she said the police were still prolonging the matter to save the accused policemen.

SUICIDE: Two boys ended their lives by taking poisonous tablets over minor issues in separate incidents here on Wednesday. Student Usman Ahmed of Chak 332-GB could not pass his intermediate examination.

In dejection, he took poisonous tablets and died on way to hospital. Badar Muneer of Mamukanjan committed suicide when her father reprimanded him from viewing movies on television.
