LARKANA, Aug 11: The Sindh government has approved a proposal of establishing a dental college in Larkana and asked the district government to prepare its PC-I.
The planning officer-II of the health department in a letter on July 14 told the district nazim that the college proposal had been accepted on the condition that the district government would provide its share in the cost of the project.
A district government official told this correspondent on Wednesday that the district nazim in a letter on Feb 21 to the secretary for health had proposed the establishment of a faculty of dental surgery (dental college) at the Chandka Medical College.
The nazim said candidates from eight districts of Sindh falling in the jurisdiction of the Chandka Medical College and adjoining districts of Balochistan, Nasirabad and Jafferabad, would be admitted to the dental college.
The health department has also moved the additional secretary for health (technical) for getting early approval of the college from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council so that work on the project can be started on time.
The district government has agreed to provide a building and financial assistance in purchase of equipment and furniture for the college. The administrative officer of the district government said the PC-I of the college would be submitted to the Sindh government soon, adding that a building had already been chosen for the purpose.
He said the district government was ready to extend assistance to the provincial government in early establishment of the college. Chandka Medical College principal Prof Noor Ahmad Channa in a letter to the secretary for health had also recommended the establishment of the dental college.
