KARACHI, Aug 10: A bus was set on fire by enraged people on Shahrah-i-Liaquat when it hit and injured school children and a motorcyclist near Paper Market, Arambagh, on Tuesday morning.

Police said that speeding bus of route 5-C hit and injured a motorcyclist Raifur Rehman and three schoolboys Murtaza, Zeeshan and Farrukh. All the injured were rushed to a private hospital from where they were referred to the Civil Hospital.

Following the accident, some enraged people of the area set the vehicle on fire while the bus driver managed to escape. Later, the fire brigade reached the spot, but the enraged crowd pelted the firemen with stones and did not allow them to extinguish the fire. In Korangi, a young man died in a hit-and-run accident near Allahwala Town. Police shifted the body to JPMC for legal formalities.

CLASH: A young man died in a clash between two groups in North Nazimabad on Tuesday. Police said that the incident occurred in Block-T of North Nazimabad, when some young men exchanged hot words over a petty issue. Subsequently, they exchanged fire wounding one of them.

The wounded man was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. He was later identified as Shoaib, 22. Police said that the suspects fled following the incident.

ARRESTED: A deserter of the Pakistan Army involved in over 12 dacoities was arrested by police after a brief shootout in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday. Gulistan-i-Jauhar SHO Shahbaz Mughal told Dawn that Sohail alias Fauji was arrested when he tried to fled after opening fire at the police in Block-8 on Tuesday morning.

Police claimed to have recovered two TT pistols from his possession. The SHO said that the suspect had committed a dacoity in Block-7 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar some six months back. Last year, he killed a woman in a dacoity attempt in Pioneer Homes, he said adding that the suspect is wanted in 12 cases of armed robbery in different police stations.

Shahbaz Mughal said that Sohail's accomplices Altaf and Ajaz had already been arrested. He said that Sohail, 30, had served for six years in army. Finally, he deserted the army from D.I. Khan, the SHO added.

INJURED: An official of the CID was shot at and wounded in F.B. Area late Monday night. Inspector Aleem Lashari, posted at the CID Civil Lines, was on his way to home in car (AFZ-028) when unknown persons opened fire at him. He was shifted to Aga Khan Hospital, where he was operated upon. Doctors said that he had suffered a bullet wound in his head.
