KARACHI, Aug 9: Namaz-i-Janaza of three of the eight victims of the twin blasts, near Jamia Binnori Madressah in SITE on Sunday, was offered outside the madressah amid stringent security measures on Monday afternoon.
A large number of people, mainly students of the institution, attended the funeral rites of Zuhair, Husain Ahmed and Mohammad Tayyab. Strong contingents of police and Rangers remained alert to meet any eventuality. However, the mourners dispersed peacefully after the prayers.
Later, the bodies were sent to their native towns in Kashmir in a PIA flight. Talking to newsmen after the prayers, Sindh Minister for Home Rauf Siddiqui said that the blast was an attempt to disturb law and order and destabilize the government. He declared that the terrorists would not succeed in their ulterior motives.
Provincial Police Officer, Syed Kamal Shah, said that police had succeeded in finding culprits of such terrorist activities in the past and those involved in the latest incidents would also be taken to task. However, he said that no substantive clue to the twin blasts had been found so far.
An investigation team, headed by the DIG (Investigation) has been formed to work under the supervision of the city police chief, Tariq Jameel, the PPO added. Earlier, funeral prayers of three victims of the twin blasts, Nadeem, Sanaullah and Saifullah, were offered late on Sunday and the bodies of Nadeem and Sanaullah were sent to Sadiqabad and Rahimyarkhan respectively. Saifullah was laid to rest in SITE Metroville graveyard.
VIOLENCE: A group of shocked and enraged people took to the streets in some localities of the SITE Town on Monday morning in protest against the bomb attack which claimed eight lives and left another 40 injured near the Binnoria Madressah on Sunday.
The protesters blocked roads by putting up barricades and setting old tyres on fire. Commercial activity, especially in the area around the scene of the blasts, remained suspended during the day.
Angry youths also pelted passing vehicles with stones. Police resorted to baton-charge to disperse the protesters. The situation returned to normal after the funeral prayers were over. However, an uneasy calm prevailed in certain localities.
JAMIA'S VIEWS: In a statement issued on Monday, a spokesman for the Jamia Binnoria, Saifullah Rabbani, condemned the bomb blasts and said that the Jamia was purely an educational institution and had no links with any political or religious organization.
