ATTOCK, Aug 8: Engineer Jamil Ahmed Malik of the Communist Party of Pakistan, a candidate from NA-59, has filed a petition with the returning officer, Sardar Tahir Sabir, against PML candidate Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz for 'violating' election rules during his campaign.

Jamil Ahmed Malik filed his petition through his counsel Sheikh Ehsanuddin advocate and Irfan Hyder Shamsi. In the petition, it was stated that under section 83-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976, no person or a political party could fix posters or banners larger than the size prescribed by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

It was also stated that posters, banners and party flags should not be fixed on any public property or at any public place without the required permission and fee charged by the local government.

Besides, the petition said that election expenses should not exceed Rs1.5 million. The district administration and returning officer concerned would be responsible for the effective implementation of the provisions.

The petitioner said severe violations of election rules were being committed by the respondent (Shaukat Aziz), therefore he should be summoned in person and action be taken against him under the relevant laws. Besides, all illegal hoardings, banners and wall chalking should be removed, the petitioner argued.
