ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: A couple, arrested by a law-enforcement agency at a marriage ceremony, has been released after they were found innocent during the investigation, Secretariat police station SHO Arshad Khokhar told Dawn.

The SHO said Tehseen Agha, 65, and Agha Ghazanfar Khan, 70, were taken into custody on Saturday when the personnel of Special Branch seized a pistol from Ms Tehseen's purse.

During the investigation, the couple told the police that they lived at a deserted place near Chattar, therefore, they had to carry the weapon for safety. "Unfortunately, they did not leave the pistol behind before entering the five-star hotel to attend the marriage ceremony of their relative," the SHO said.

Mr Khokhar said Ms Tehseen was a retired barrister and had also worked in the Oil and Gas Development Corporation, while her husband was a landlord. The aged couple had the arms licence, but they were not carrying it at that time, he added.
