ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: A piece of advice to the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shahryar M. Khan and chief selector Wasim Bari has come from a senator who wants them to resign honourably.

Muhammad Enver Baig called upon the two officials to follow Ramiz Raja and step down because managing cricket was beyond them. "Shahryar and Bari should quit because this is the demand of the people of Pakistan."

Ramiz, the chief cxecutive of the PCB quit on Saturday after clinging on for months to a job he was not doing justice to. He cited his pressing broadcast assignments as the reason for resigning.

Enver said that Shahryar would now do well to submit a copy of Ramiz's resignation and that of treasurer Muhammad Naeem, who had quit in May, with the Senate Standing Committee on Sports.

A meeting of the committee, investigating the affairs of the PCB and the reasons for Pakistan's defeat to India at home, is scheduled for Aug 10 in Islamabad. Shahryar, Bari and some other cricket officials are likely to attend the meeting.

Enver urged the PCB Patron, Gen Pervez Musharraf to appoint a fresh team of officials who know the technicalities of the game. "If he wants to see all round improvement, he should bring in new people because this lot cannot do anything right."
