Armitage hails Islamabad's help
WASHINGTON, Aug 7: The United States is "delighted" with Pakistan's cooperation that has allowed Washington "to get a lot of information on a possible attack", says US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.
He was quoted by an Arab daily, Al Hayat, as saying on Friday.
Referring to the heightened alert in three US cities in the wake of reports about a potential threat of a terrorist attack before the elections, he said: "We're quite alarmed ... Some people who we believe were trying to purchase weapons to cause us harm." He referred to recent arrests of suspects in Britain and United States.
"But the amount of chatter that we've seen, and the amount of talk on jihadist websites leads us to believe that they're intent on trying to repeat the experience of Madrid; that is, to try to disrupt our political process and strike us in a way that both harms the political process and harms our nation, perhaps in the financial area."-APP
