OKARA, Aug 6: The tenant of a widow robbed her of valuables after serving her and her family members drugged food on Thursday night. Widow Hanifan Begum told police that one Asif rented the upper floor of her house in Samanabad about five months ago.

On Thursday night, he celebrated birthday of one of his children and invited her whole family - 12 members - to the function, she added. At about 11pm they were served burgers and squash. The whole family fell unconscious after eating them, she continued.

She said when her family members did not go out in the morning, her neighbours got suspicious. They knocked at the door and on failing to get a reply, they jumped over boundary wall and found the whole family unconscious. They took them to the DHQ hospital where they regained senses on Friday evening.

She said when she visited her house she found every lock broken and valuables missing. She suspected that Asif and his family robbed her as none of them could be found.
