HYDERABAD, Aug 6: A meeting here on Friday discussed possible contingencies during rain and finalized measures to meet any emergency. Speaking at the meeting, District Coordination Officer Mohammad Hussain Syed said the Met department had forecast heavy rain in Sindh, including Hyderabad.

He said the rain relief emergency centre had been established at his house with Tel. No. 0221-9200115-6 to monitor the relief operation round the clock. He urged public utility departments such as Hesco, T&T, SSGC, HDA, TMAs, irrigation and works and services departments to depute one representative each at the rain relief emergency centre to coupe with the situation.

He directed the MD Wasa and TMAs to keep their sewerage pumping stations/drainage lines and de-watering pumping machines in working condition to drain out rain water from their areas.

He also directed representatives of Hesco to ensure uninterrupted electric supply to keep drainage and water supply systems functional. He urged Hesco officials to prepare their plans for attending complaints about falling of electric-wires within the shortest possible time to avoid any loss of life.

He said the electric supply for sirens must be ensured. He directed the MD Wasa and TMAs to ensure all manholes of their areas were covered to avoid any untoward incident during the rain emergency.

He directed irrigation authorities to be vigilant and strengthen embankments of canals and keep all water escapes functional to avoid any breach. He asked the EDO education to prepare rehabilitation plan for rain-affected people and keep accommodation available for establishment of relief camps.

He said the help from the EDO CDD, social welfare and other departments of the district government should be sought to ensure that accommodation facilities including provision of food medicines were available at relief camps.

He directed the EDO revenue to ensure that decisions taken about Pucca Qilla (Fort) inhabitants during last meetings were implemented. He directed the EDO health to ensure the provision of health facilities with staff, medicines and ambulances at all hospitals of the district.

He said the EDO works and services should arrange the removal of garbage and fallen trees from roads during the rain emergency period. He directed all EDOs, public utility departments, TMAs and heads of Sindh government departments to ensure that all the material required for rescue operations was available with them before time.

He also directed Mukhtiarkars and Tapedars of the district to remain present at their places and keep coordination with their local heads and the rain-emergency relief centre to meet any eventuality in their areas during the monsoon season.

City taluka nazim Moinuddin Shaikh, all EDOs and DDOs of the district government and representatives from public utility departments and Sindh government departments attended the meeting.

HESCO: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has declared emergency to meet any eventuality during the rains specially in coastal areas to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers.

A spokesman of the company said all five operation circles and grid station staff had been alerted along with the construction staff. He said the material manager had been directed to stock poles, conductors and other material to immediately rectify the transmission fault.
