LAHORE: Ex-mayor of Multan convicted

By Our Correspondent

LAHORE, Aug 6: A National Accountability Bureau court here on Friday sentenced a former mayor of Multan and PML-N MNA Salahuddin Dogar to five years rigorous imprisonment and Rs7 million fine.

The amount of fine is equivalent to the lease money the PML-N leader was alleged to have failed in recovering from a number of contractors of octroi, toll, wagon stand and licence fee due to political favour from 1988 to 1992 when he was the mayor.

The NAB court also disqualified him from holding a public office for 10 years. He would not be allowed to get any bank loan or assistance from any financial institution over the same period.

A reference against Dogar was filed in 2000. He has already been sentenced to 10 years in jail with Rs20 million fine. The court has also ordered confiscation of his properties in Multan - Mohammad Arcade, Friends Hotel, Park Hotel and Students Biryani House - in a reference which charged him in 2002 of acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income.
