Power sector privatization discussed


ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: A committee on power sector privatization constituted by the Cabinet Committee on Privatization (CCoP) met here on Wednesday with Privatization and Investment Minister Dr Hafeez Shaikh in chair to discuss the issues pertaining to the power sector privatization.

The committee considered the concerns and risks perceived by the investors for the privatization of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation and Jamshoro Power Company to formulate recommendations for the CCoP for providing full comfort to the potential investors.

The committee considered in detail the regulatory and policy concerns regarding the power sector entities and discussed a number of proposals and options for the consideration of CCoP for resolving the concerns.

The other members of the committee, including secretaries of ministries of water and power and privatization, additional secretary finance, member Nepra and financial advisers IFC and Price Water House Cooper, were present in the meeting. -APP
