PESHAWAR, Aug 3: A widow has appealed to the Peshawar High Court, the NWFP chief minister and the provincial police chief to provide her security against her influential tenants and stepson who have forcefully occupied her property.

The old woman, Hussan Jamala, continued roaming in the high court throughout the day in the hope of meeting a judge of the court, to apprise him about her problem. The security officials on duty did not allow her to meet any judge the premises, and forced her out of the premises.

The woman, carrying all relevant documents of her property, told the newsmen that she had now been moving from pillar to post and had no place to reside as the tenant, Said Rehman, had locked her out of her residence at Wazirbagh No 1, Kakshal, Peshawar.

She said that she was the second wife of her husband, Haji Saleem Khan, who died nine years ago. She added that her husband had gifted a house and four shops to her, which were properly registered on her name.

She claimed that after the death of her husband, the tenant Said Rehman, who was renting out the shops refused to pay her any more rent, and instead joined hands with her stepson, Jan Wali.

Hussan Jamala said that she is a poor lady and the shops were her only source of livelihood. The lady claimed that she had visited the concerned police station and the elected councillors, but none of then helped her. Finally, a person asked her to visit the high court from where she could get justice.

From early morning the woman was narrating her ordeal to every passerby. Later on, when she was exhausted she started wailing and entered a courtroom. The court officials informed her that she could not meet the judge in such a manner, and it would be better to hire a counsel who will file a proper petition.

The lady who was not aware of the legal and procedural technicalities was continuously asking why these judges were there when they could not provide relief to a poor person like her. Some lawyers also passed by the woman, but none of them offered their services as the old woman had nothing to pay to them.
