MMA flays operation in Balochistan

Published August 3, 2004

KARACHI, Aug 2: A central leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Sindh, Dr. Mumtaz Memon, has expressed concern over ongoing military operation in Balochistan.

In a statement, he asked the government to avoid taking such steps as these were against the integrity and sovereignty of the country. Condemning the operation in Balochistan, he said the operation was carried out to complete the US agenda in the region.

On the one hand, rulers are emphasising the importance of negotiations with enemies and on the other, an operation is being carried out against patriotic people and they are not asked for negotiations, he maintained.

He said that the military operations in Wana and Balochistan were a conspiracy against the MMA governments and these kinds of operations could not halt the increasing popularity of the MMA. He urged the government to stop operation in Balochistan and start negotiations to resolve the problems. -PPI
