DHAKA, Aug 2: A Pakistan citizen, Alek Jan, who was arrested with 24kg of heroin in Bangladesh in 1999, was granted bail by the High Court on Monday.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Abdul Quddus and Justice AFM Abdur Rahman passed the judgment dismissing the trial court order rejecting the bail petition of Alek Jan.
Alek Jan and two other Pakistanis were arrested on September 20, 1999 from a city hotel with 118 packets of heroin weighing 24 Kg.
The charge sheet in the case was submitted on February 27, 2000. Hearing a bail application, metropolitan sessions judge of Dhaka Matiur Rahman granted conditional bail to Alek Jan on July 5 this year.
