KARACHI, July 31: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) came under fire on Saturday when clubs participating in the national league said terms and conditions imposed on them without consultation were causing financial problems.
Young XI manager Saleem Awan said PFF had taken arbitrary decisions, depriving clubs of accommodation during away matches, daily and travelling allowances which had made things difficult.
"PFF is giving us nothing except bonuses. The rules and regulations have been made without consulting the clubs.
"We received the terms and conditions after we qualified for the league. This is sheer injustice. How we are supposed to meet such huge expenses. We even threatened the PFF we will withdraw if these circumstances continue but it fell on deaf ears," he said.
Saleem said his club had booked 12 rooms in the city and was paying Rs300 per day, while it had to bear Rs750 per person for travelling from Dera Ismail Khan to Karachi to play the matches.
"So we will be needing Rs43,200 for accommodation, Rs86,400 for daily expenses. From where we will generate that kind of money if PFF is not willing to extend financial help.
The only monetary help we received was Rs75,000 from the NWFP Football Association from Rs150,000 given to PFF to be distributed among the two qualified clubs," the official said.
He lamented that his club stayed in changing rooms of the Punjab Football Stadium while playing matches in Lahore. "That was personally arranged by PFF director technical Mujahidullah Khan on our request, while PFF did nothing."
"On the one hand PFF is not willing to give financial help on the other it imposes enormous fines if any club withdraws due to lack of funds as was done in the Naka Mohammadan's case who were fined Rs60,000 after they withdrew from away matches in Quetta due to money problem."
Rana Mohammad Ashraf, the manager of Panther said, financial terms and conditions laid down for the league by PFF had been causing immense problems.
"We came all the way from Faisalabad to Karachi and are to stay at least 10 days. How we are going to meet the huge expenses which are in lakhs of rupees for accommodation, travelling, food, clothing and washing etc.
The official said Panther were in even more financial straits since Punjab Football Association had not distributed Rs150,000 provided by PFF. The amount had been given to associations to meet expenditures for organizing the matches and participation of their clubs, he added.
"The two qualified clubs from each provinces are supposed to get Rs75,000 each from the provincial associations. But in our case, we have been deprived of that amount," he complained.
Ashraf said his club had written to PFF president Faisal Saleh Hayat about the financial problems, but nothing fruitful happened.
Naka Mohammadan official Nisar Ahmad said his club would not pay PFF the fine and would not play away matches in future if situation did not change.
"We have not been given Rs75,000 by Sindh Football Association. We have planned to inform PFF that we will not play any more away games if we are not provided financial assistance."
