ISLAMABAD, July 31: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League has decided to convene its provincial councils in August to elect office-bearers while district office-bearers will also be appointed during the month , PML Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain told Dawn here on Saturday.

Besides, according to Mr Hussain, party offices would be opened throughout the country with hoisting of the flags of Pakistan and the party. UAN numbers will be installed in the party offices.

He said the three-day independence celebrations would be held under the party organizations during which hoisting of party flags and other programmes would be organized and a party membership drive launched.

Public rallies, seminars and appraisal of local bodies polls scheduled in 2005 would be part of the programme for the month of September when the process of selection of candidates for election 2007 would be initiated, he said.

In phase three in October-November, Mr Hussain said, the party would launch a 15-day membership drive in the country and hold party conventions to be addressed by the central leadership.

He said the ruling Pakistan Muslim League had decided to launch a 100-day reorganisation plan to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
