SAHIWAL, July 29: An unidentified man shot dead a woman and her daughter and injured her husband in Azim Town here early Thursday morning.

Armed man entered the house of Ata Muhammad by scaling its boundary wall and opened fire on inmates, who were asleep. Consequently, Kausar and her daughter Rani (10) died instantly while Ata sustained serious injuries.

He was admitted to hospital. According to police, the victim family had an old enmity with Ahmed Sahoo of Azam Sahoo village. Farid Town police have registered a case and are investigating.

FAINTED: Nine women and a man fainted on Wednesday after drinking a poisonous water in Chak 35/12-L. The crop of Haji Abdul Sattar had reportedly been sprayed with pesticides. However, some pesticide mixed with the drinking water which was later taken by the labourers.

They were rushed to a local hospital where three of them were stated to be in critical condition. The victims were identified as Naeem Irshad, Najma, Abida, Majida, Kishwar, Asia, Nusrat, Haleema, Sajida and Imrana. Police are going into the matter.

LOOTED: Unidentified bandits snatched a bike, cash and valuables and injured two men on resistance in three different strikes here on Wednesday night. Armed robbers deprived Ejaz Ahmed of his bike (SLM-1317), Rs27,000 in cash and shot and injured him on resistance.

On Lower Bari Doab Canal, armed bandits snatched from Ashraf his motorcycle and Rs11,000 in cash. Four armed bandits entered a factory near Chak 187/9-L and held Afzal, Amjad, Tanveer and another man hostage. The intruders collected Rs264,000 in cash and three rifles and turned tail. They also shot and injured Zulfiqar for holding them out. Police have registered separate cases.
