KARACHI, July 28: The officials of Sindh Employees' Social Security Institution have been asked to ensure proper facilities for 275,000 secured workers and their 1,375,000 dependents in a better way.

The directive was issued by the new SESSI Commissioner Gul Muhammad Rind during a briefing given by senior officers at his office on Wednesday. He asked the officers to bring more industrial and commercial units under social security scheme for increase in the institution's earnings. He said that the local directors especially should gear up their efforts to achieve the targets of revenue collection.

Gul Muhammad Rindh pointed out that cardiac care unit at the KVSS SITE Hospital was already established and the building of neurosurgery unit would soon be constructed at the hospital.

The commissioner said that he would inspect all local directorates and medical outlets of the institution and the steps required for their betterment would decided during his visits.

Earlier, SESSI Director Administration Ziaur Rehman Khan Naghar, local directors and medical superintendents of the hospitals in their briefing informed the commissioner about their working and achievements.

During 2004-05, the total coverage of secured workers under social security would reach 310,000 and Rs771.814 million would be collected as social security contribution from the registered establishments, they said.

They said that a total amount of Rs526.886 million would be spent on provision of medical care facilities to secured workers and Rs29.725 million would be disbursed among the secured workers as cash benefits during the same period. The briefing was also attended by SESSI vice-commissioner Pir Bakhsh Jamali and senior officers of the institution. - APP
