KARACHI: Free IT centre set up in N. Karachi

KARACHI, July 20: As many as 800 free information technology and computer training and awareness centres will be set up in Karachi and other parts of the province in collaboration with the private sector.

This was stated by Sindh Minister for Information Technology Syed Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a free information technology awareness centre in North Karachi, Mustafa Kamal said these centres would benefit youngsters from poor localities.

He told the gathering that the IT department had initiated a number of projects with the collaboration of the private sector and that the work on these was under way. Mr Kamal described this first free IT awareness centre as a revolutionary step.

He said that arrangements were also being made for free computer courses for those who could not pay the fees. The minister stated that various foreign companies had shown interest in investing in the IT sector in Pakistan and especially in Sindh. Negotiations in this respect were continuing and results of these were coming to the fore, he added. - APP
