KARACHI, July 20: Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi of the Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi on Tuesday extended the date for submitting chargesheet against Dr Ismail Sheikh , an activist of the banned Hizbul Tehrir and directed the police officer to submit charge-sheet against him on July 23.

The challan of the accused was to be submitted on Tuesday but the police requested for an extension in the date till July 27.

BLAST CASES: The same court directed the police to submit chargesheets against Gul Hasan alias Ali Haider, an activist of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in Imambargah Ali Raza and Haidery mosque bomb blast cases on Wednesday.

Gul was arrested by the law-enforcement agencies on June 13 from Mithadar. He is stated to be an accused who planned the attacks on the Imambargahs. Police thus booked him in three cases in respect of killing, explosive and possessing of illegal weapon charges.

VAN ATTACK CASE: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Tuesday fixed July 28 for indictment of two activists of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in prisoners' van attack case.

Police showed the arrest of Muzamil and Malik Tassaduq on charge of attacking a prisoner van for releasing their detained associates near Bohrapir area in the limits of Nabi Bux Police Station on Feb 28, 2002.

Two people, including a police constable, Shakil, were killed while as many as 11 persons were injured in this attack. The activists of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Mohammad Faisal, Sabir Ali Waseem, Mazharul Hassan are also being tried for their alleged involvement in the said case.

Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi, who is holding trial in central jail Karachi, fixed July 28 for indictment of the accused. Amir Mansoob Qureshi, Maqboolur Rehman and Ashraf Mughal advocates appeared for defence side while special public prosecutor Abdul Waheed is representing the state.

PARCEL BOMB CASE: The same court adjourned hearing of trial against Mohammad Athar, an activist of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Alami, in a parcel bomb blast case after deposition of prosecution witness.

Mohammad Athar is charged with sending parcel bombs at offices of DIG Operation Karachi, SP Civil Lines and home department on Oct 16, 2002, in which several police personnel, including PA to DIG Operations sustained injuries. The statement by Dr Patel of the JPMC was on Tuesday recorded. The next hearing of case has been fixed for July 28.

BAIL GRANTED: The Additional District and Session Judge East Nadeem Ahmed Akhund on Tuesday granted bail to Mohammad Ali, an activist of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Alami, in two separate explosive cases and directed him to furnish surety in sum of Rs500,000 and Rs200,000 respectively.

He was arrested by the police on June 15, 2003, from Korangi area and a huge quantity of explosive material was recovered on his pointation. His counsel Maqboolur Rehman submitted that his client was implicated in two separate cases despite recovery of explosive material which was shown by police at the same time.

He prayed to the court to release the applicant on bail. The court, granting the bail application in two separate cases, ordered that he may be released on bail subject to furnishing the above mentioned sureties. -PPI
