KARACHI: Two killed in 'encounters'

KARACHI, July 17: Police claimed to have gunned down two alleged bandits in separate incidents on Saturday. Police saw three men standing near a factory in Korangi Industrial area in suspicious manner. The police tried to search the suspects, who instead, opened fire at the police and tried to flee, the police said, adding that as a result, a policeman, Yaqoob, suffered two bullet wounds.

The police returned the fire, killing one of the suspects on the spot, who was identified as Mohammad Ismail, resident of Kalakot, Lyari.

However, the two other suspects managed to escape, while a TT pistol was found beside the dead suspect, the police claimed.

In another incident, police claimed that it signalled three men on a motorcycle on Siddique Wahab Road in Garden police limits. The suspects tried to flee while firing at police personnel, who returned the fire, killing an unknown suspect on the spot, the police added.

The two other suspects fled leaving their motorcycle behind, which was neither stolen nor snatched, the police said.
