LAHORE: By-polls to 31 seats today

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, July 17: By-polls to five seats of Nazims and 26 Naib Nazims of 31 union councils in as many districts are being held on Sunday.

Polling for the seats will begin at 8am and continue till 5pm without any break. Voters will have to produce their national identity cards for casting votes.

The election to the vacant seat of Yazman tehsil Nazim will also held on Sunday between 8am and 4pm. Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors of relevant union councils will be voters for the office.

As the by-polls are being held on a non-party basis, Punjab Election Commission member Justice Nasim Sikandar has banned entry of all irrelevant people, including ministers, advisers, district, tehsil and union council Nazims, and government officials.

No one will be allowed to do canvassing within 200 metres of any polling station. Legal action under relevant election laws will be initiated against the violators and the candidates will be disqualified from by-polls, warns a press release issued by the commission.
