Five French aid workers kidnapped

GAZA CITY, July 16: Five French aid workers were abducted by gunmen in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday and locked up in a building belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The sources said the five _ three men and two women _ were taken hostage in a cafe in the refugee camp of Khan Yunis and marched to a dormitory inside the Red Crescent building by some 20 gunmen.

It was unclear whether the kidnappers belonged to any organized faction or had any demands for the release of their hostages, who had been working on repairs to the camp's power and water system. -AFP
